"Not well thought - Avoid" 2010-03-14
By E. Whitman (Great Falls, VA, USA)
I bought this thinking it was a smaller version of the standard charger for my new Z-series Sony.

Not so; this charger is big. Why can;t Sony copy Kensington or any of the other mini-chargers?

Second (and more important / awkward), is the VERY short lead that connects the brick to the charge port on the laptop. This lead is all of six inches long. This has to be the most ill-thought design ever. It certainly came from the brain of a knuckle-dragging designer with absolutely no idea what he was doing - or why he was doing it.

In practical use, this means you must move the brick every time you move the laptop. Lying in bed with the laptop is not an option because the brick will always be draped over your leg and it will constantly pull on the charge port - eventually destroying it.

Sitting in a chair with the laptop on your lap - not an option because the weighty brick is always pulling on the charge port.

Avoid!

 "Not small!" 2009-11-26
By Simone (New York)
This product is best described as a replacement adapter that instead of having a long thin cord from the laptop to the powerbrick, it has a short one that is stored inside the the brick itself. The removable standard 3-prong power cord, thick but durable, is the long element here. The powerbrick itself is big, but more narrow than the powerbrick supplied with the laptop. It is just as heavy. I was expecting something of the size of my Acer AspireOne powerbrick, something that is truly lightweight and tiny. The supplied case is nice and will prevent cord damage when stuffed into my backpack only to be pulled out again. The total weight of the adapter + cord + case is 1 lb 2.2 oz. I purchased the laptop, a Z890, because it is lightweight. Total carryweight for the computer (not counting sleeve) plus adapter (including case for this) is now up to about 4.6 lbs.

 "this thing is horrible!" 2009-11-25
By willymcdme (slc)
I got it for free when I bought my vaio Z last year, I was expecting a power cord that would be good for traveling, this is anything but good for traveling, the design as the previous reviewer mentioned is plain stupid. It has a very long thick cord from the outlet to the power brick, then a short thin cord for 6" from the power brick to the computer. It should be the other way around, so that, for one the thinner wire could be wrapped around the brick, and the thick heavy power cord going to the brick can be short and thus weigh less. Also the design is really only usable if you can put it on a table, otherwise your computers power port will be taking all the weight of the power brick hanging to your side, which is probably not good for it. Only thing I can say is I am glad i did not buy it, otherwise I would be super pissed off. I now use this power cord for my home desk, and the power cord the notebook originally came with for traveling. The original is way better for traveling then this peace of crap! I don't understand how anyone, first 2 reviewers, could like this thing....

 "Just As Described" 2009-08-25
By W. Dabaja
The VGP-AC19V30 19V AC adapter is the perfect accessory for traveling and convenience. Ideal for trips, it fits neatly in its carrying case, which is included and takes up little space on a table. The unique design lets you neatly tuck in the DC cable into the side of the adapter and the supplied storage case fits the entire cord to avoid a tangled mess.

 "Does the Trick" 2009-05-21
By Ahmad Nasser (MI, USA)
The Adapter is supposed to act as a replacement or spare power adapter for a the Vaio. It does just that, nothing more, nothing less. The adapter is rather slim and fits in a standard bag. It does the job and is a official Sony product, so its durable and reliable.
